ERN – European Researchers’ Night at Bari: spotlight on the PRIN BERMS project

A journey into the hidden world of beaches

On September 26, 2025, Bari hosted the European Researchers’ Night (ERN), the Europe-wide initiative that brings research closer to citizens through events, workshops, and activities. Among the highlights was the PRIN BERMS project, showcased at the stand titled “Once upon a time there was sand… a journey into the hidden world of beaches”, organized by the Department of Earth and Geoenvironmental Sciences of the University of Bari.

Through a hands-on laboratory, researchers engaged visitors in exploring the secrets of coastal environments: from observing sand samples at different scales, carring out measurements, and recognizing traces left by human activity on coastal ecosystems.

The experience offered an opportunity to understand how natural processes that shape sediments intertwine with human-driven transformations. A true journey between science and awareness, aimed at better understanding the life of beaches and the daily work of those who study them.
